002 ⟡ MARCH TEST DRIVE
⋆✩ test drive 02 ✩⋆
The day begins like any other.
Routines, eventful scenes, and boring errands — no matter what you were in the middle of, there's a moment where everything begins to feel wrong. A searing pain tears through your body, so intense that it feels like every nerve has been struck at once. Muscles spasm, joints scream in protest, and as you double over, you find yourself clawing or clinging at anything within your reach. As your attempts to maintain composure fail you, your bones begin to twist with an agonizing force, the pain rising in a crescendo until it becomes unbearable to even breathe. Then, as quickly as it began, everything stops.
For a single, terrifying moment, there's nothing. No sight, no sound, no touch, no taste, no smell — just the weight of nothingness swallowing you whole. The absence of sensation might even be worse than the pain, leaving you adrift in a void you can't escape. Hopelessness threatens every fiber of your existence, and try as you might to fight it, your darkest thoughts begin to surface, flooding your mind in an onslaught of suffocating feelings and ideas.
In the darkness, you hear a voice.
It's faint, a gentle flashing of something warm along the edges of your mind, like sunlight itself. It's a voice, but you can't identify who or what it comes from, how it sounds, or what it means — still, you know it's directed at you. Something tugs at your heart, a powerful ache that throbs once and ripples outwards. You can feel the aches again, like fresh sores throughout your body. You feel off, like something isn't quite right, like you're not where you should be, or who you should be. But the voice continues, whispered just beyond your understanding. The sound is warm like hope, and it wraps around you, distant yet intent, before you wake up.
i. arrivals
OUT OF THE WOODS
The fog that surrounds you and your fellow new arrivals is maddening, and something foreign wraps around not just your mind, but your body as a whole. A strange illness has long been spoken of and witnessed within and around Bottlecap Bay, and you're the unlucky bunch to arrive with it slithering its way in now.
The fog is heavily related to this mystery illness that has plagued Pokemon, both inside the city and wild, for some time now. Though the connection isn't easy to fully grasp, it becomes incredibly clear as time passes that the fog worsens the symptoms of the illness. Some Pokemon who traverse the fog come out just fine, but others fall ill with varying levels of severity.
As soon as the first reports come from the Cheri Berry guild indicating that a large amount of confused Pokemon have been spotted approaching Bottlecap Bay from the forest, the three guilds send their members out in forces. Rescue these newcomers and discover that they're just like you, and not just confused wild Pokemon. Dr. Denne firmly insists on bringing everyone they can to the Pokeclinic, so please hurry!
ii. nightmares over
LINGERING SHADOWS
How does it feel, when the Pokemon beside you wakes up with a calm stretch and a healthy, well-rested and rejuvenated smile? They feel great, they say, looking at you with worry and concern. What's wrong? You didn't feel that warm and wonderful sensation during the night, like being wrapped in a blanket of lullabies? How odd...
What could this possibly mean?
iii. pokeclinic
PRESSED FOR SPACE
Anyone who steps foot or paw into the Pokeclinic can tell immediately that it's overbooked. The main ward of rooms is packed, cots spilling out into the hallways, and even the lobby is beginning to look like an impromptu campsite. Pokemon staff shuffle, flutter and scramble around the bodies of ill Pokemon, performing checkups wherever they can find the space, applying medication and herbal treatments where necessary, and reassuring worrying family and friends.
In the midst of this chaos, it's not hard to see how mixups are occurring. It gets bad enough that even Polteageist themselves joins in on treatments, causing a shocked ripple of whispers and gasps any time they float by in a hurry. They can be heard, at times, firmly scolding those who make the mistakes, insisting that there's no excuse for poor health care, and that even in times of urgency, care and attention to detail is needed. But for the time being, this isn't enough to help.
So they put out a plea to the other guild leaders. The Pokeclinic needs everyone who can help to check up on patients, deliver meals and medications, and check records for mixups. Lum Berries are fewer in number, so it makes sense that they're being overwhelmed right now! Polteageist promises to make it worth everyone's while, of course. Any Pokemon who works within the clinic during this time will be awarded with points.
LEARNING YOUR BODY
⟡ TDMs are game canon and act as events for the month they are posted.
⟡ New characters can link to their top level beneath the NEWBIE DIRECTORY!
⟡ All new arrivals are not assigned to any one guild. However, if they assist with any of the clinic prompts, they may gain points for their future guild!
⟡ The creepy forest fog can be done away with temporarily through Pokemon moves, but always seems to work its way back like it has a mind or will of its own.
⟡ Remember that at least one thread for your application must come from the TDM! There is no comment minimum, but we will be looking for engagement, as well as for players and characters who take the time to delve into things like character thoughts, emotions, morality, and other deep themes. Take this time to engage with the setting as you would in game!
⟡ As of today, reserves and applications are now permanently open, with apps processed every other month! See information on their respective pages for details!
⟡ Have any questions related to the TDM? Ask here! If your question is more general for the game, please make sure to direct it to the FAQ page instead. Thank you, and happy threading!
Narciso Anasui | JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean | Espathra | OTA
Deconstruction reconstruction | cw: fictional OCD
[Yeah, the guilds may be offering facilities for people to get used to their new bodies and minds... but Anasui's not using any of that. It's not that they aren't useful, it's just that Anasui doesn't particularly like other people (or just others in general) and a lot of these things naturally bring you into the presence of others.
So the Espathra has set himself to do his own thing. Training? Perhaps it could be called that because he is certainly testing his body and mind... but it's really because he feels the need. The need to take it all apart.
He doesn't intentionally cause damages. But throughout the city, you may find Anasui disassembling things. During one night, he'll be there taking apart a random market stall, neatly arranging the planks and nails in size order where the stand once was. During the early morning, you may see him using psychic to pull apart a signpost and then start sorting each wooden piece by the size of the grain. You may even spot him one afternoon using his new ostrich-like claws to excavate stones from the pavement, and stack each stone in a single column (honestly, that one could be mistaken for an art piece).
He does nothing to acknowledge you if you end up watching any of his project. But if you come remotely close to him, he'll look up and glare at you.]
...
[And then he's going to either walk away or continue doing what he's doing. Which wouldn't be so bad... if he didn't start dismantling the rope bridge connecting one part of the Canopy to another.]
--------------------------
Violence uncontained | cw: Violence (duh) but implied mutilation
[The first thing that will hit you is the smell of blood.
It's not a faint wisp of it, like the trace of the scent you get when you're close to an injury, it's something much heavier. It's a scent that weighs down the wind like a plume of smoke and the lack of scarlet in the air will look almost strange with how prominent it is.
Should you choose to follow it and not run away, you'll find yourself heading to the edge of town where the smell just gets stronger and stronger. Those with particularly keen senses of smell may notice that the scent partially comes from mysterious, meaty cubes strewn about the forest floor but most of it is coming from the body.
Or the mass of cubes that should have been part of a body.
It's messy. It's horrific. It's bizarre. And the gory scene is made all the more bizarre by the perpetrator still being present. An Espathra is currently just... standing there... menacingly. They glare into the treeline and speak to something in the darkness, not at all hiding the blood on their claws.]
Hmph... I told you attacking the town was a bad idea. Now... Leave.
[Is he talking to you? A hallucination? It's hard to tell... but do you really want to find out?]

The Clinic
[To the surprise of absolutely no one this newcomer has been taken off of guard duty. However, because everyone has to contribute one way or another, Anasui ends up helping out at the clinic (partially because it lets him have easy access to some medicine his growing headache).
But Anasui is not terrible at his job. Even though his scowl is deeper than ever (hardly noticeable, really) and his eye-bags are heavy, Anasui does whatever work is asked of him.]
Eat. [A patient's food (which may be yours!) is unceremoniously dropped in front of them by Anasui. He glares down at them with cold, blue eyes.] Else you're getting force fed.
[His bedside manner may need some work. But that may be to do with the headache he has. Anasui wishes he had fingers so he could rub his temples but all he can do is glower.
Someone's clearly been avoiding sleeping. Should he even be helping right now?]

[Nothing vibing? Feel free to hit me up at usagisimaginaryfriend on plurk or pyrachan on discord! Alternatively, just something!]
Violence uncontained (CW: gore, blood)
The new scar on his forehead aches, and the pain in his joints flares, but he can't- won't just leave it like this. The meaty cubes- he can't even tell what kind of pokemon it used to be.
His Grumpearl- where is his Grumpearl? He needs to inform Mightyena-san-!]
Hello? Mightyena-san? We have- a situation, [he whispers into the pearl when he finds it, frantically trying to establish a connection-
-and Ren is pretty sneaky, but with his newfound chronic pain, and the intensity of the situation, the ostrich-like perpetrator may have noticed him regardless.]
no subject
Don't bother calling. It won't come back if it knows what's good for it.
[Anasui turns away and goes back to the meat cube pile, picking at it carefully with his talons. It's hard to tell from a glance but since Ren is a lot closer he can probably see the meaty cubes were also leaf-green under the blood. Does that make it better?
... He... Absolutely assumes that Ren is anxious about the enemy he jumped rather than him, huh?]
no subject
Yeah, no shit it won't come back- it's all over the forest floor! There's nothing left to come back!]
That's not what I'm worried about, [he says, firmly, refusing to let any weakness show. He's still very, very carefully keeping contact with his Grumpearl, hoping that at least someone picks up on this.] You- what did you do?
[The wild pokemon- they're still pokemon. Even if they're sometimes hostile, they don't deserve- whatever this is. Ren can hardly stand to look at it, and yet the larger pokemon is so fucking calm.]
no subject
If only it wasn't accompanied by such stupidity. Anasui narrows his own eyes and looks between Ren and the meat pile, as if saying 'come on, dude'.]
What do you think I did? [Isn't it obvious?
Wait... he supposes this could look bad if you looked at it wrong.] It's not a body, if that's your issue. [Anasui!] It's just this thing's tail. I've been cutting it up to figure out how it works. It's equal parts plant and animal... I half-expected sap to come out instead of blood.

Clinic
I'm a ghost-type. Even I don't know how I eat, so I'm not sure what your plan is here.
[ His most obvious mouth is, just as obviously, drawn onto his patently false "head". There's a pair of glowing eyes peeping through the eyeholes in his costume's "torso", but nothing besides shadows seems to actually be inside said costume. Even the claw that's sticking out from beneath (to hold his tail-stick) looks ephemeral. How Do Ghosts Eat?(tm)
...It's not that he hasn't figured out eating yet, it's that he's decided to be difficult. ]
no subject
The Espathra stares coldly down at RS. After a long moment, he shrugs.]
Not my concern. I was told to make sure you get food. Not if you eat it or not.
Figure it out or starve.
no subject
H-heheheh.... noted~
[ To be honest, the Ring-Spirit isn't entirely sure if he's supposed to be checked in or not. But, food! He's got nothing better to do, might as well see if it's any good. So he takes a bite.
The bite just kinda. disappears out of the food, without visibly being taken by the pokemon. It's just Gone Suddenly. ]
no subject
Anasui watches as RS bites down and raises an eyebrow. Weird. Was this what non-Stand users saw if a Stand took a bite out of something?]
... Hope that was you eating it and not an invisible Pokemon stealing your food. Chart says you need something in your stomach before you get medicated.

violence uncontained (cw: gore, references to animal death)
But in this quantity, he does not think of food. He thinks of the only dead body he's actually seen before, the body of Redtail being dragged into camp by his scruff, the same day that Firepaw joined ThunderClan. It's been three moons now, but this smell and the sight that accompanies him brings him right back to it.
At first he isn't sure what to do - he's only a kitten, but if he leaves to get help, what if this bird covers up their crime somehow? And how would he explain this bizarre horror show in a way that makes sense? He ends up approaching, stomping his paw to make his presence known. He's a fairly undersized Litten, shivering from nerves even if he's trying to push authority into his voice. And his voice sounds like a kid's, not much older than Emporio.]
Wh-what in StarClan's name did you do?
no subject
I took care of the problem. [He flicks one of the meat cubes from the top of the pile down to the bottom.] Don't worry about it. It won't be back to bother us.
[How... reassuring.]
no subject
Was that someone who lives here? What makes you think you can just kill folk and act so normal about it?

Sighs deeply. V I O L E N C E.
And so he makes his way to the scene of the crime(?) at the edge of town with a half-hearted caution, staring first at the piles of flesh then slowly turning his attention to the bloody bird. Truly, very, very interesting. This creature didn’t seem to have the benefit of fangs or claws like he had - had it done all this with those talons? The wolf grins.]
Not bad. Pretty impressive, actually.
Handshakes in violence
After a moment, it does become apparent that whatever Anasui was glaring at wasn't coming back. Then, and only then, does he turn his avian head and stare with bright blue eyes at the Lycanroc.]
...It got the job done. [He scowls and frustratedly kicks one of the cubes off the top of the small tower.] Bastard got away but I doubt they'll come back again for more of that.
no subject
[Oy, is it really considered just a warning shot if you actually hit the target with it?! Oy! Berrryllll!!
He moves closer now, inspecting the meat. Definitely not human. Were there humans in this world at all? He’s beginning to suspect not. Something to ask about, perhaps. But first:]
Are you some sort of town guard?
no subject
The Espathra narrows his eyes as Beryl approaches but doesn't comment, letting the Lycanroc inspect his work. Underneath the blood and the dirt, the meat is more white than red, not unlike a lizard or a chicken.
Then he snorts, amused. Guard? Him?]
No. Just heard sometimes wild Pokemon come along the town and cause trouble. Figured that this is a better use of my time and skill than whatever the guild would set me up with.

i am also choosing VIOLENCE
what]
[The galarian corsola comes to a stop, glowing gaze flickering from the gore cubes to the ostrich-thing to the forest edge. He's going to temporarily ignore the full implications of the mess, for the moment, and the first little burst of shock fades out quickly.]
Is there something... else... out there?
We loveeee violence
Anasui doesn't respond for a few moments but eventually he gives a long sigh.]
There are always things in the forest. [Anasui no-] But I think it's retreated for now. Should be clear.
[Anasui turns his head back to look at the Corsola and raises an eyebrow. (Un)dead coral? That's a new one...]

Pile.]
[On the one hand, this is extreme serial killer behavior.
On the other hand... maybe it's not? Pokemon do seem to eat other pokemon, maybe this is just how this species hunts.]
What was it? [He gives a sort of nod at the.
Pile.]
no subject
Its tail. [Anasui responds nonchalantly. His eyes leave the Galarian Corsola's and go to his pile. He begins picking at the cubes with his talons, looking each one over before moving it around like a puzzle.] The tail of what? Who knows. Some reptile-like Pokemon. Do you know which one is which?

Deconstruction
Do you have any idea how much work I've had to do because of you?
[As someone both very mechanically inclined and having forelimbs capable of grabbing tools Hiccup has been hard at work fixing everything Anasui's dismantled.]
[It's enough for him to feel guilt over all the things he'd destroyed when he was younger. But at least in those cases he wasn't doing it intentionally.]
Normally I'm pretty patient. But I'm tired, overworked, this stunt is going to get someone hurt, and all three of those things are your fault. Knock it off.
no subject
[Anasui looks down at the reptile in disgust, as if insulted that he was being touched. A part of him wants to pull his foot back and kick the Cyclizar in the face but Anasui bites back the urge. The Espathra just snatches his talon back and glares at the other Pokemon.]
Make me. [He's also tired and stressed, but that's precisely why he's doing this.] I just need to figure out how all of this works.
no subject
Look, this doesn't actually have to be a fight. We can get some yarn and dowel rods and I can make a scale model and teach you. But you can't keep taking things that don't belong to you apart.
no subject
I know the theory of how a bridge works. It's not the same as taking things apart. [Taking it apart is more important than knowing, though he won't actually say it!]
