003 ⟡ MAY TEST DRIVE

⋆✩ test drive 03 ✩⋆

The day begins like any other.

Routines, eventful scenes, and boring errands — no matter what you were in the middle of, there's a moment where everything begins to feel wrong. A searing pain tears through your body, so intense that it feels like every nerve has been struck at once. Muscles spasm, joints scream in protest, and as you double over, you find yourself clawing or clinging at anything within your reach. As your attempts to maintain composure fail you, your bones begin to twist with an agonizing force, the pain rising in a crescendo until it becomes unbearable to even breathe. Then, as quickly as it began, everything stops.

For a single, terrifying moment, there's nothing. No sight, no sound, no touch, no taste, no smell — just the weight of nothingness swallowing you whole. The absence of sensation might even be worse than the pain, leaving you adrift in a void you can't escape. Hopelessness threatens every fiber of your existence, and try as you might to fight it, your darkest thoughts begin to surface, flooding your mind in an onslaught of suffocating feelings and ideas.

In the darkness, you hear a voice.

It's faint, a gentle flashing of something warm along the edges of your mind, like sunlight itself. It's a voice, but you can't identify who or what it comes from, how it sounds, or what it means — still, you know it's directed at you. Something tugs at your heart, a powerful ache that throbs once and ripples outwards. You can feel the aches again, like fresh sores throughout your body. You feel off, like something isn't quite right, like you're not where you should be, or who you should be. But the voice continues, whispered just beyond your understanding. The sound is warm like hope, and it wraps around you, distant yet intent, before you wake up.

i. arrivals
FROM TUNNELS DEEP

The scent of must meets your nostrils, perhaps more strongly than it normally would. To open your eyes is to meet the dark — though if you're fortunate it could be that something about this new body, or perhaps the body of another, leaves some faint illumination to see by. Either way it soon becomes clear that where you are is somewhere underground. They are deep and sprawling tunnels, with corners of some unknown civilization storied away in their many carvings and ruined pottery. Portions of the cavern walls even bear the appearance of old structures and dwellings, as if the earth itself swallowed a city whole.

Trickling through the tunnels in quiet streams are tendrils of fog. It's difficult to see, but not in the least hard to feel. The mist is damp and cloying, clinging to every inch it finds on you to the point that it seems to grasp at the very soul; and the longer one lets it have its way, the worst it feels. You begin to question your body. Your mind. Your very memories — are they really yours?

Staying underground may be unwise anyway. Diglett and Dugtrio soon make themselves known to the weary arrivals here, and unlike these newcomers they have had far too long to succumb to the mist. They will attack without hesitation, and the only options are to fight or flee above ground.

The forest above unfortunately is not much better. The fog here is thick, even if some light somehow makes its way through the canopy above. What could have once been helpful landmarks become sources of dizzying misunderstanding, and the gnarled trees seem to move when no one watches. Rescuers from the city will have their work cut out for them once it becomes clear how many could be stranded out there, and time will be of the essence. The sooner that these wanderers can be brought to the clinic to be treated, the better!

CAUGHT IN THE BRAIN FOG⟡ While the fog does not cause illness specifically, it is still incredibly dangerous to spend extended periods of time within it. Disorientation, hallucination, as well as mental and physical dysphoria are all symptoms noted from the fog and it is vital to remove oneself from its presence. Fortunately, the symptoms fade quickly once exposure ends.

⟡ The severity of the above varies; characters may feel that time is moving too quickly, or simply become incredibly aware of their inhuman limbs. Players may increase or decrease symptoms as they desire, at this time.

⟡ In addition to the above symptoms, memories become scattered across characters in the fog. The longer one remains within it, the more memory they lose to it — and the more foreign memories they gain. Players are encouraged to offer memories within their top-levels for others to use, but unlike other symptoms, characters need to come in contact with the memory's source to be free of them.

⟡ As many within Bottlecap Bay can guess, the location of all of this is the Southern Forest; which means all the dangers discovered in earlier quests apply. In addition to the disorienting fog, this particular branch of forest is rife with time and space distortions, making it difficult to navigate safely through.

ii. under the weather

RAIN RAIN, GO AWAY

The first thing anyone will notice as the month of May truly sets in, is the rain. Light or heavy, sunny or cloudy, a near constant rain pours down upon Bottlecap Bay and its surrounding areas. There's no escaping it; it pours, and it pours, and it pours ever long, until it becomes impossible to do even basic tasks outside one's dwelling without getting soaked to the bone.

While it's not unusual to receive rain at this time of the year, the amount of rain is unnatural according to the Guild Leaders. To ensure no one suffers any more than they already have, all three are quick to open their doors to these new Pokemon in their midst. Or at least, they're quick to offer other foreigner's doors. Pokemon who originated from other worlds soon find themselves with new bunkmates and housemates, and with the rain as bad as it is there’s no good way to refuse.

It's best to remain in similar company after all, and until there’s time to sort out who fits where, it’s all these newcomers have.

RAIN CHECK⟡ Though the epidemic from earlier in the year has now passed over, Dr. Denne does not let his guard down. New pokemon are herded to the clinic for mandatory check-ups, to be absolutely safe. The clinic will house pokemon exhibiting any sign of illness, but otherwise send them off to rest in their temporarily assigned housing.

⟡ Unfortunately, many of the offered Guild rooms belong to those recently admitted into the fold. At these lower tiers, rooms are often exposed to incoming water. Rain causes floods to rise up within Oran Guild, bringing at least an inch of rainwater along the shared ground. In the Cheri Guild, it pours between leaves and over walls during particularly stormy weather. The only guild with surefire methods to avoid the rain is Lum Guild; all of these buildings are fully enclosed.

⟡ Even if Pokemon are able to avoid getting wet while sleeping, this won’t spare them when they go outside; it is at minimum drizzling at all times for the rest of the month.

THE WATER CYCLE

While Pokemon begin to settle into their new lives at Bottlecap Bay, the rain continues to fall. On some days it’s harder — hard enough to bring sheets thick enough to blot vision, sharp enough to leave unprotected pelts stinging for minutes after retreating inside. Thunder booms, and lightning flashes, a clear message to all within the city when they see it. These storms are bad. Dangerous. And the danger is in more than just the weather itself.

At first the signs are subtle. Those same symptoms from the forest can be felt, lasting only as long as a Pokemon is damp from the downpour outside. Even the gentle drizzle causes absent thoughts, an empty mind staring into the distant grey skies as you forget.

Staring longer still, as you remember. But is what you're remembering actually yours? Something about the concentration of forest mist in the form of raindrops changes the effects as the days go by. The body and mind rebel against what it knows doesn't belong, and it finally comes bursting out with a shout! Those memories you've seen, they aren't yours! They're someone else's!

And the world needs to hear it!

STORMY MOODSAfter May 10th, the rain for the rest of the month is constant. Severity of the downpour is up to the player to decide, but it never stops drizzling at the least.

⟡ While symptoms from earlier prompts can still be in effect, additional consequences are caused by the rain. Light drizzle carries lighter memories; happier thoughts, caring moments. Pokemon capturing these from the rain are drawn to quietly whisper their opinions on such memories, and can pass them to the original owner in this way. Raging storms bring the opposite; Pokemon will inherit despairing, or wrathful memories from another in the rain, and feel compelled to instead shout their opinions to cast the memory aside.

⟡ Despite the above, Pokemon do not need to pass the memory to their original owner to get rid of them. NPCs can be used as well, and it can be assumed the memory eventually made its way home.

⟡ Side effects of the rain carry over into any puddles formed. Sleeping while soaked in water will cause effects to manifest as sleep-talk, and potentially affect their dreams.

iii. the archives

RECORDS KEEPING

The longer the rainfall persists, the more clear it is that staying outside is unwise. Not only is it dangerous to non-water type Pokemon's health for the most part, but the full scope of side effects only increase the risks. After one too many shouting matches caused by vitriolic memories, Polteageist offers a simple but beneficial solution. The doors of the archives are opened up, as senior members in the Lum Guild offer up their time as temporary librarians.

Polteageist's solution is as follows; instead of training their bodies out in the rain, everyone will be training their brains. There have been many questions raised over the last number of weeks, and now is the time for everyone to investigate the mysteries. Entering the Archives means entering a building of clear splendor, filled with couches and beanbags for sitting and beautiful flowers and plants to accentuate the green hues within the halls. The shelves are well stocked with records kept on stone tablets, and the additional guides within the guild are eager to help everyone find what they're looking for.

The illustrious leader of the Lum Berries is well aware however, that not everyone is willing to spend all their time reading. As it would be counterproductive to expect anyone to sit twiddling their thumbs (or tails, or ears) he has thus arranged for a few of the archive meeting rooms to host additional activities. They are simple things; there's classes on recording writings properly in clay before firing, minor history lessons where newly arrived Pokemon can share in what many others already know, and even community building exercises. They're nothing like the escape rooms organized during the last two months, but they're good for passing the time.

And eventually, the rain will hopefully calm down. A few skilled Psychic Pokemon are offering their services to keep others dry until then however, at least so that everyone can get home safely.

SHUSH!⟡ The Archives, while acting as the base of operations for the Lum Berries Guild, additionally acts as a library. Players are encouraged to come up with their own available texts within these halls, but should keep in mind that not all knowledge is publically available. If a player is unsure about whether or not something can be easily accessed, please comment about the topic under questions.

⟡ Examples of available topics include general folk tales and fairy tales (with examples given here), as well as non-fiction matters such as pokemon types, species, and moves. As a note, paradox pokemon and canonically synthetic pokemon such as Type: Null are not included.

⟡ The history of Bottlecap Bay is no different from what is noted within the game's premise; guild members teaching the history will explain that the settlement came about when a number of Pokemon escaped from human lands, seeking refuge where no humans could be found.

⟡ Players may be creative with team building exercises, provided they would not cause damage to their surroundings; examples include bonding activities such as 'two truths and a lie', '20 Questions', and even scavenger hunts within the public Archive limits. The focus is always upon getting to know one another.

✩ OOC NOTES.
TDM CWS: body horror, disorientation, hallucinations, dysphoria

⟡ TDMs are game canon and act as events for the month they are posted.

⟡ New characters can link to their top level beneath the NEWBIE DIRECTORY

⟡ All new arrivals are not assigned to any one guild. However, if they participate in the Archive's bonding activities, they may receive a unique reward.

Remember that at least one thread for your application must come from the TDM! There is no comment minimum, but we will be looking for engagement, as well as for players and characters who take the time to delve into things like character thoughts, emotions, morality, and other deep themes. Take this time to engage with the setting as you would in game!

⟡ As a reminder, reserves and applications are permanently opened. Please see their respective pages for details on processing time.

⟡ Have any questions related to the TDM? Ask here! If your question is more general for the game, please make sure to direct it to the FAQ page instead. Thank you, and happy threading!

It was made of ghost, [he says, as if that explains literally any of it.

Maybe it does.

At least he doesn't mind the nickname- it actually makes him laugh a bit. There are worse things in life than getting spontaneous nicknames, and being named for his bone helm acting as a backpack is honestly kind of neat.

Technus seems fairly cheerful anyway, so.
] No problem. I'll just explain to Dr. Denne that I had to give you a pair. They're normally for over-exposure to light inducing moves, that kind of thing...so this isn't far off from that I'd say.

[Annnnd voila a pair of simple shades! Very simple, these have paper frames.] I'll have to see who in the town makes eye-wear later...they'd be able to get you a permanent set.

FLOWEY BUDDY,

[This guy....

Is as bad at social interaction as he is.

It's a bit ridiculous. Emporio blinks, slowly, and then a little faster as he comprehends what Flowey's even saying. And then he can't help it- he muffles a giggle behind his hand, but it turns into a laugh.

It shouldn't be funny. Any time this has come up it's honestly been fairly upsetting. But it's so...

Ridiculous.

...The laugh sounds pained after a moment- possibly because of those background thoughts that he's trying to push back again. It quiets, and with the clinic and the nearby archives around the corner, the cubone nods.
]

Snf...

[And sniffs, clearing the last of what was almost a bit of a cry.] ...Y-Yeah, we are free here, huh? The forest is still pretty dangerous, and I can't really swim in the ocean but...

...It's definitely more than a ghost room in a jail, that's for sure.

LIGHT-INDUCING MOVES? [He shudders.] I AM GLAD THOSE MOLE THINGS IN THE TUNNELS DID NOT HAVE ANY OF THOSE.

[Says the guy who exclusively uses electric moves. It's you, Technus, you're part of the light-inducing problem.]

YES! A PERMANENT SET OF SHADES- CAN THEY BE RECTANGULAR? RECTANGULAR SHADES ARE STYLISH.

[Duly noted! All good here <3]

[Sorry Flowey. Sanji's brothers were never ones to hold back, seeing him more as a faulty toy than a person. If he knew what exactly was spilling over he'd be mortified. To him, they were the monsters, and he was just human and small and weak. Father hated that he ended up human. What about this is strong? But then humans in the images flickering over look pretty scary as well-

Sanji breathes slowly, deep and steadying. The pie is fainter now, replaced with a more floral scent, sharp and sweet and bitter with blood-
] Uh. Yeah. That would make more sense, huh? [The vulpix laughs, which comes out slightly strangled due to nerves and the still getting used to a vulpine muzzle and all. Skies and seas what he wouldn't give for a good smoke...

Glassy blue eyes peer curiously at the little seedling. No arms...
] Hell if I know. Circumstances being what they are, I'm sure people can get creative, lack of arms and all. [And maybe he wanted to help out with a good old stress bake! Who can blame him! But seriously, how do these limbless monsters get around...asking the real questions here.

His breath hitches when the new memory hits him, and he- he has to sit for that one. He doesn't know this dead person, but it's a child. And for the briefest second, the sibling has Reiju's face, was she killed for helping him escape-?!...blink and it's gone. Would he grieve if it were Ichiji, Niji, Yonji? Or would he be relieved- no. No this isn't his, but this pain is viscerally real, the regret. Lifeblood seeping into a field of flowers, leaving nothing but coldness in its wake.

The creature next to him is cold too. They must be, the way they're shivering. Sanji forces the grief down, taking in what's in front of him instead.

'D-don't you start pitying me or anything.'

Ha. He knows how that goes. He knows firsthand how pity just dumps salt into the wounds. And why would he pity someone who's still alive and kicking after all that? So he sits in front of the seedling and reaches out a paw, warm and steadying...and sets is firmly on top of what he thinks is the creature's head. It's not the intent, but this also starts sorting memories back where they belong.
] Not pity. Can't help the freaky hallucination rain, right? [He smirks. Or. Tries to, anyway. He'll work on it, to make it less...sharp toothy.] Still, hell of a way to get to know someone. I think we should at least exchange names first, right?

Mine's Sanji. You?

[He will politely not point out that Technus is currently radiating a slight glow.]

Mnh, Pokemon living in tunnels probably wouldn't, so that worked in your favor at least! They've probably lived underground or in the dark all their lives after all, so they'd be just as sensitive to it if anything...

[Honestly he's half surprised diglett even have eyes. Oh well.]

Hehe- If they're making them custom, I can't see how they couldn't! It might even be easier for them to make that shape for all we know!

[Which, well, to be fair-] ...I've never actually gotten my eyes tested, so I wouldn't really know much about the process other than what I read at least...

...and since all the books in the ghost room had to be published before 1984, they're probably out of date.

[Probably could've read more on the computer, but he didn't really have a reason to look that up. Now it's too late...]

...Hmn. Now that I think about it, there's not actually as much technology here...there's simple technology, but not a lot of advanced stuff...

[Which, he supposes makes sense, but it's still weird to think about.]

Cheri Berries! They live up in the trees.

[He glances back at his flaming tail.]

But it's okay. Guilmon hasn't started any fires!

[personal profile] technusrulez 2025-05-12 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
...OH! LIKE A LAIR!

[Technus finally seems to get what Emporio means by "ghost room" and "ghost computer." Granted, he now thinks it belonged to a ghost who died in 1984, but other than that he can grasp the concept pretty well- a room that once was, and then was recreated through ghostly means.]

NOT MUCH TECHNOLOGY, EH? WHAT DO THEY HAVE? THERE MUST BE SOMETHING.

A - Brain Fog (Heavensward, Shadowbringers, and Dawntrail spoilers possible, respectively)

[Gods, again? There's Pokemon lost in the forest again? And in the Southern Forest, too - they aren't anywhere near prepared to tackle it properly yet, but Firoza goes in anyway, bandana tight around her snout and a prototype satchel of various berries carried with her. Specifically the ones that help with confusion, but some for other status effects, and HP-restoring ones too, even if she doesn't know that's what an Oran or Sitrus Berry does.

She has to help others. She has to.]

Are you alright? I can help you out of the forest - to a safe place, with kind creatures. This I swear.

[The longer she's in there, though, some scattered memories might press up into your mind, just as yours might press into hers. Maybe y'all better move on to that safe place she mentioned?

(Also yes I know these are all different Warriors of Light, shhhh)]

B - Rain Check: Cheri Berry Guild

Apologies - I know you've just arrived. But, could you help me patch some of these gaps?

[Firoza is doing her best to keep the sleeping quarters of the Cheri Berries dry...ish. Not just for herself or guildmates, but for the new arrivals unceremoniously shoved into this place as well. It's just...the rain's so bad. The rain is so bad. The moment you think you have one area secured from downpour, a new leak crashes through another, and it's hard to keep up with it by oneself, especially as a tiny little Nidoran. Luckily, Firoza has some things to help that she's been stockpiling - waxy, sturdy leaves and felt pressed from donated wool and fur. It's going to cut into her satchel-making plans...but it'd be better to be less damp, it really would. No one likes a soggy bed.

That being said, you could just tell her no and see where that gets you.]

C - Record Keeping

[Training their brains, huh...?

It isn't that Firoza is slow or unable to learn things. She's just not Learned, in the traditional sense, and it has always been a sort of quiet sting in the back of her mind. You would think that becoming the champion and primary combatant in a group of eccentric warrior scholars with the equivalent of PhDs in their respective fields would make that hurt more, but the Scions never made her feel foolish. Not once. They all worked together to put their knowledge to use, answered each other's questions, and cared, genuinely, for each other. Their presence is home to her.

It makes their lack of presence in the Lum Berry Archives all the more sad. Twelve above, they'd be so interested in everything here.

For her part, Firoza is practicing her letters in the alphabet of the Pokemon, taking the time to relearn to read...or at least get used to the sensation of strange symbols making sense. She is sticking to simple fairy tales, the kind a child would read, with small words and easy concepts - and no restrictions on their access.]

Some of these Pokemon would immediately be feared as Primals if brought to Eorzea - Calamity-inducing Primals at that. Or maybe they are more like the auspices of the Far East? Or the Tural Vidraal? Hm...

[Just say a bunch of concepts no one is familiar with, at a normal talking volume that'll get you shushed faster than any speeding librarian could do - this is obviously the way to make new friends.]
technusrulez: (THAT GHOST CHILD WILL BE SNOOPING...)

...YOU MUST HAVE TO BE VERY CAREFUL. I DO NOT ENVY YOU IN THE SLIGHTEST, GUILMON.

[Congratulations, Guilmon, you get to be the one person whose name Technus actually uses. Your vocal quirk has assisted you in this.]

POOR WAKABA... alas.

[Twisted...

Yes, that's one way to put it, isn't it? A little flower, killing and killing... Far more chaotically than even Akechi at his worst.

Not that he plans to rebuke Flowey's claims. He has no business doing so, really.]

Well, I'm certainly not innocent. But those memories... clearly, there is more to it. Missing pieces.

[A weak grunt of laughter escapes him.]

Secrets kept close to the chest, freely exposed for all to see... I can't say I'm fond of this weather.
undeux_allblue: (ANGERY)

THIS IS TRUE. Adds more problems. I'm helping (no)(cw: medical trauma)

[personal profile] undeux_allblue 2025-05-12 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
[OOC note it's been a hot minute since I've watched ALST but I'm pulling on some vague memories if that's ok? Feel free to throw your own in because of the rain and all, ehe]

[Because they're both frankly drenched in rainwater, those recent memories seep over to Sanji. He blinks, the medical checkup blending with something decidedly less benign. Restraints, a cold table at his back, needles, a collar- what? His fur raises in turn, and it's only with years of practice that he's able to smooth it back down for the sake of the person (dog...) in front of him.

It never helps to show such anger to someone already alone and scared. He learned that over and over with Nami, Chopper, with Robin...

But then there are teeth snapping in his face, and to his credit, Sanji barely twitches. An image flickers over for Till to see, of a man with short cropped green hair, covered in bandages, pointing a sword at him for daring to interrupt his rest (you need to eat at some point you idiot!). Sanji's used to this.

The thing is, the attack didn't connect. So Sanji just stares at the much larger monster, shoulders stiff, glassy blue eyes assessing.
] ...Nah. I don't think I will. [He wants to shrug, but doesn't, in favor of not making sudden moves.] Food's ready, and everyone needs to eat. Including you lone wolf types, yeah?

[There's a red light. What? He didn't think this place's tchnology had...

..........his eyes land on the godsdamned actual collar around this sentient being's neck.
] Oi. Who put that on you? [His tone is steady, and remarkably cold for a fire type pokemon...]

[Even though he totally bombed that, at least Emporio's laughing. That could've gone a lot worse.]

Heh... yeah, look at us, moving up in the world! Literally in my case, since I was underground. And if we watch each other's backs, I'm sure it will turn out alright! [Cheesy, but he's not above platitudes.]

[Finally, the archives are near. This guy isn't too bad, Flowey decides. He can't exactly feel affection, but he's curious about Emporio. What type of person is born in jail? Besides him and every other monster, at least, but that's different.

Flowey doesn't want to push it now that he's got Emporio smiling, though. He has plenty of time to pry deeper.
]

Boy, you've been a big help! Maybe we'll see each other around?
friendlyflower: (slumptired)

[personal profile] friendlyflower 2025-05-12 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
['Hell of a way to get to know someone'... that's putting it lightly. Flowey hates ruminating on these memories. Someone like him, who has nothing to defend himself with but honeyed words, having all his bitter secrets spilled out makes him feel completely exposed.

When Sanji touches his paw onto Flowey's head, he very nearly snaps and tells him to keep the damn memory, but he restrains himself. Despite everything, he doesn't want to forget Chara.
]

Just call me Flowey. Nice to meetcha.

[And, besides, Sanji's paw is warm. He would sooner die than admit it, but it feels kind of nice. This world has been nothing but beasts attacking him in the tunnels and a 'greatest hits' tape of his- and everyone else's- worst moments. To top it all off, he's soaking wet. So.]

I haven't had arms for a while, so I'm used to it. If you used to be bipedal, you've got a steep learning curve ahead of you, bud. You can do a lot with a wooden spoon handle in your mouth if it's not a recipe that needs precision... but, I'm a photosynthesizing kind of guy. I had to get real bored before I started cooking.

[In one timeline, Papyrus and Undyne- Sanji might get a glimpse of a skeleton and a fish-person in his mind's eye- tried to teach him how to make spaghetti. Despite the chaos that ensued, it's a more pleasant memory than Flowey's other ones.]

Ugh, did you see that, too? A guy can't think one thing... whatever.
friendlyflower: (ughlaugh)

[personal profile] friendlyflower 2025-05-12 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
Boy, you're telling me. It's like a confessional out here. Here I was hoping to make a good first impression!

[The memory has slipped from his mind, but he knows that Akehci has killed before, just like him. At least he doesn't have to put on his nice guy act. He's tired of being someone he isn't.]

You know, most people who learn the truth about me tend to run away screaming. Are you a masochist or just dumb? You definitely saw me killing for fun. [Of course, he is just a Sunkern. A bird like Akechi could probably pluck him up and eat him. So his words aren't exactly a threat-- just more curiosity that Akechi is sticking around.]
seacub: (:])

[personal profile] seacub 2025-05-12 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
[Another laugh- Emporio might or might not be able to even comprehens the concept of cheesy.] Yeah- definitely!

...And, at the very least, if you're around the archives much it's that much more likely. Other than when I've gotten an assignment from the quest board, I spend most of my free time in there.

Actually, [he adds with a beaming smile,] If you're looking for something specific, I'll probably be able to help find it- the archives are the HQ for the Lum Berries Guild, which I'm part of right now!
seacub: (AND NOW A PIPE TOO??)

[personal profile] seacub 2025-05-12 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
[He thinks about that.]

...Yeah, I guess it was like a lair now that I think about it...no one could find it if I didn't let them in, so my friends and I would use that room to talk for the most part...

[Ah, but thinking about people who (mostly) aren't there is upsetting, so he'll move on.]

...It's interesting? I guess since so many Pokemon have unique abilities, different things developed along different paths...

Take this for example. [The cubone pulls out from his odd backpack what looks like a pearl.]

This is a 'Grumpearl'. They're the closest thing to a communications network they have, and even work underwater...but I think it uses 'psychic power' to do it. It's impressive too- audio and visual aside, it can even project emotions.

But for actual technology...it's all simple. Even the streetlamps are illuminated by Pokemon themselves. Kind of like those 'candle lamps' I read about, but with electric tadpole Pokemon instead.

Emporio, for once, might actually be childsized next to someone, without being comically so. His near One Foot next to Luigi's floating 3'11 or so might be toeing the line though.

Still, as it's drizzling, he watches the cheery jellyfish ghost from under a cafe awning after shaking out his umbrella. Making note to tuck it inside his skull helm turned backpack once dry, he calls across the way.

"...Did you come out of the forest alone?"

Good job if so, that's pretty tricky.

[The cries echo through the tunnels, traveling far through the sprawling dark until they reach another also lost in the fog. That fog felt like a sanctuary to Lusamine once, when she was here last. She had been convinced that it held all she could ever want: memories of the happinesses that had been stolen from her, frozen in time for her to stay in forever. Only phantoms, perhaps, but better than the nothingness she had left. In the moments the fog did not show her those beautiful things, it was instead stripping the ugly memories from her mind—and that, she decided, was just fine, too.

Now, the fog has done just that, leaving her with no memory of it. In this moment, all she knows is that someone—a child, alone in the dark—is calling for her, and she can't hope to ignore him.

Something she does manage to remember after she starts her search, moving unsteadily on her four legs, is that the body she's in is built for burrowing. Despite the complexity and foreignness of the caverns, on instinct, she knows exactly how to navigate them and where to go to find what she seeks.

Soon, she comes slinking out of the dark toward him, the glint of her sharp Yungoos fangs and claws surely menacing—but when she speaks, her voice is sweet and soothing.]

Oh, you poor dear... Shh. It's all right now. I'm here, I have you...

And what, may I ask, is a "Russian Roulette"?

[It's more the Russian part that she's unfamiliar with, judging by the strange way she pronounces the word.]

Golly, that works out great! I'm looking to learn all I can about this weird new world. That means we're study buddies too! [He does a silly wink.

The archives... knowledge is power, and it's time to arm himself.
] Thanks again, Emporio! I wouldn't want to hold you up for too long, but I'll definitely letcha know if I need anything!

[For a minute, he's sure that some type of ferret is here to finally put him out of his misery-- then it starts coddling him. He's not sure which is worse.

The voice isn't unwelcome- it's reassurance that he'll be able to continue eking out a wretched, soulless existence- but it doesn't stir up any filial affection, either. The memory of butterscotch cinnamon pie is just at the edge of his consciousness, and he remembers the woman he stopped seeing as his mother a few hundred timelines ago. Fear gives way to anger.
]

I- I wasn't crying! Stay back, lady!

[He gives a little sniff as if he was crying, which he wasn't, thank you very much. Ugh. This new body already has him off his game. But if he could go to hell when he died rather than succumb to nonexistence- he's soulless, remember- then he's sure it would look exactly like what he just experienced: lost and alone, forced to relive his memories on loop.]

What, a-are you just out looking for lost kids? Weirdo. Just show me the way out of this dumb place. [There's a pleading edge to his voice despite the harshness. There's nobody he's ever cared about that he hasn't killed, so why shouldn't he lash out against the first person to show him kindness in this hellhole? But if she actually leaves him, he's not sure what he'll do.] I'll watch your back too, but don't try anything funny.

Oh, it's a game where you get people together, and you load a gun with a single bullet. So, you see who shoots 'emself.

[ said so casually. To be fair, he does think some people might not know about Russia! (fun fallout fact: the enemy was made china instead of the soviet union because one of the writers remebered russian incompetence while working on a game.) ]

Goro Akechi | Persona 5 Royal | Rookidee | Current Character

[personal profile] truthdecided 2025-05-12 01:34 pm (UTC)(link)
From Tunnels Deep:

[Akechi hasn't spent a great deal of time in the Southern Forest. That changes today. It has to, so he can ready himself for the trials ahead. He remembers Firoza's post, remembers the warnings of the fog. As he makes his way down, Akechi can't help but marvel at some of the ruins and their untold history. There's a story here. A reason why this civilization is long buried, undiscovered until recently...

But that's not why he's here.

The fog creeps through the tunnels. He's covered his beak with a cloth mask to try and minimize its psychological effects, but that can't account for the rest of his body. That uncomfortable clinging, a tingling in his mind, as foreign memories ripple all around him...

Some of his own memories may even leak out unwittingly...

But he tries to ignore. Tries to follow the memories, eyes on the prize.

Any newcomers may find a scowling Rookidee approaching, even daring to fend off some of the Dugtrio with surprise Drill Pecks or Scary Face to slow down their frankly ridiculous movements.

It's also possible to get a memory. Mention the tone and how comfortable you are with Persona 5 Royal Spoilers! This applies to the other memory prompts. Just keep in mind that some of Akechi's memories get very heavy and deal with murder, parental suicide, parental sex work, manipulation, and abuse.]

Under the Weather:

[Akechi hates this rain. It's bad enough that the Oran base already has issues with floods and leaks, but now? In their communal rooms, so close to the waterfront?

In the Oran base, he can be found trying to stack extra twigs and stones and other assorted objects to elevate his and Ren's shared bed and shaking off his little feet when the water splashes them. His feathers are a bit fluffed up, but he is determined to get this done!

Of course, he can't just stay in the den, despite the ridiculous weather. He's a bird. He needs to fly! Moreover, it's an opportunity to survey the surroundings and get more supplies.

Perhaps you'll see him awkwardly carrying an umbrella in his beak, or a basket full of snacks to minimize unnecessary trips later. Eventually, he sets up his goodies around the nest, defending it from the unexpected guests.]

Sleep wherever you like except here. This space is strictly reserved for Ren and myself.

[...Yes, he's a territorial little guy.]

The Water Cycle:

[Akechi should stay inside. Storms are hazardous for birds. He knows his type combinations. Lightning is not ideal...

But restlessness compels him to investigate. This is abnormal rain. It isn't right.

He tries to stay low to the ground, to duck under awnings and overhangs and carefully carry his umbrella.

But something's wrong. Something's WRONG.

His thoughts wander. His eyes drift to the sky. Memories flow in and out...

He ends up aimlessly wandering.

Perhaps someone nearby will unwittingly pick up on his memories. Perhaps foreign memories will invade his mind in turn...

Or perhaps someone will drag him back inside.

Specify the tone of the memory you want and heed the earlier warnings!]

Records Keeping:

[This is exactly what Akechi has been waiting for.

Knowledge, right there for him to access. A chance to investigate. To prove himself! He'll show that Polteageist that even Oran houses sharp minds.

And so, Akechi can be found piling up the stone tablets and perusing them with an intensity that rivals the fearsome lightning raging outside. One might worry that he's so focused on studying that he's not taking breaks to eat very often. Food can wait. It's knowledge time!

That being said, he can be spotted listening in on classes and lectures, learning how to write his own clay tablets, and even sharing his own findings from throughout his assorted missions.]

Perhaps the most daunting sight was that of an immense, aquatic silhouette swimming beneath us. Drakloak-san said that they heard someone ordering the larger Pokémon to attack... Based on my readings, I have to wonder if perhaps it was a Dondozo, but without having seen one up close, it's rather difficult to say.

Regardless, the rise of aggressive, irrational Pokémon is cause for alarm. The spores in the Northern Forest and the fog in the south both seem indicative of larger threats. And now, even the Pokémon in the city aren't safe...

[It's a worrisome sign, to be sure.]

That is a defining difference between us. I never killed for fun.

[Well, ordinary Shadows, certainly. Those were always cathartic to tear through. He took pleasure in killing Okumura, of course, but the man had it coming. He had used Akechi just like every godforsaken piece of filth in Shido's inner circle...

Yet he remains oddly nonchalant. Something about the memory struck him...]

Although, it seemed as though some of those kills repeated themselves. How odd.

[Either the memory is distorted, or there's more to it...]
